Yoki was founded in the 1980s by Yoshizo Kitano, a Japanese entrepreneur and immigrant who had a vision to bring convenience and security to the sale of food in Brazil. It brought pre-packaged items of flours and grains instead of the bulk items of the season, making life easier for consumers.

Yoki has two meanings:
1. Yoshizo Kitano
2. Happiness, achievements, well-being, prosperity
